As Mississippi's largest
art museum, the Mississippi Museum of Art is home to some
extraordinary works of art. In 1911 the Mississippi Art
Association was founded to promote the original work of Mississippi
artists, sculptors, writers, craftsmen, and other artistic fields.
It's not simply the best in local and regional art that they have
on display. Each year some of the most diverse exhibitions in the
nation come to Jackson, as well as numerous rotating exhibits from
the museums permanent collection of more than 3,100 works
of art spanning thousands of years of art history.
In addition to the continuing exhibits, the museum
offers year round educational classes, workshops and programs for
children, adults and teachers. The biennial Mississippi Invitational
Exhibition, which began in 1997, invites a guest curator to bring
an objective eye and fresh perspective on the states most
promising artists. And not to be missed is the museums monthly
Unburied Treasures and Jazz, Art and Friends
evening series of jazz, cocktails, literature and visual arts.

partnership with the City of Jackson and the Jackson Convention
& Visitors Bureau. Our agency also receives public funding from
the Mississippi Arts Commission, Hinds County Board of Supervisors,
U.S. Department of Education, and the National Endowment for the
Arts. Additionally, our programs and services are supported by private
foundations, corporate donors, our volunteer board of directors,
and individuals committed to cultural development in the city.
