The inaugural concert of the Mississippi Symphony
Orchestra was performed in 1944 before a crowd of more than 500
listeners, and the organization has evolved into the states
leading presenter of symphonic music, as well as a major arm for
arts with ensemble visits to schools, full orchestra concerts to
students, and an extensive string instruction program.
Each season the full orchestra performs a Bravo
and Pops series showcasing classical and pop selections. Symphony
conductor Crafton Beck easily moves musicians from the complex strains
of Tchaikovsky to the light-hearted humor of "Casey at the
Ball Field."
