Eudora Welty helped found Mississippis
only full-time professional theatre over 35 years ago. She could
often be found working behind the scenes, and the Eudora Welty New
Play Series was launched to bring challenging new works to the community.
New Stage is dedicated to cultivating and educating
a culturally diverse audience by gathering the finest available
playwrights, actors directors, designers, technicians, administrators
and board members. Its education department offers artistic and
technical internships, as well as a statewide touring program with
teaching materials.
