The Old Capitol has served
three functions in its long history--state capitol, state
office building, and from 1961 to the present, as a museum administered
by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. As one of
the first museums in the nation accredited by the American Association
of Museums, the Old Capitol has been designated as a National Historic
Landmark.
The Old Capitol also offers educational public
programs and outreach to schools and civic groups.
